Be a DUCK

Not the bird, or even the played out trope. I'm not saying to let things run off your back, although that is good advice from time to time. What I'm talking about is more corny in some ways, but is easy to remember, and, I think, more useful.

Be Diligent - in everything without exception. Show care for your work and for those you work with, work for, those you manage, those you serve.

Be Urgent - if for no other reason than to get the task at hand done and get to the next important thing. It also adds value to meet or exceed expectations of schedule

Be Consistent - if you can't be the first two, this one can still add value. There is a reason chain restaurants exist, and it's not because they offer the best service or products.

Be Knowledgeable - because it's what you're ultimately being commissioned for, and it's where you can add the most value. Trends may change and skills may become unneeded or you may lose them, but knowledge is cumulative and transferrable. It cannot be bought, it can only be used or taught voluntarily.
